The Made in Africa Evaluation Convening Report Is Now Available |
|
|
|
The full report from the Made in Africa Evaluation (MAE) Convening, held in Johannesburg on 9 and 10 June 2026, is now available to read and download on the AfrEA website, along with photographs from the two-day gathering.
The report documents the consolidation of a unified Made in Africa Evaluation Framework, bringing together the University of Botswana's Indigenous and philosophical approaches with the University for Development Studies' practical monitoring and evaluation workflow.

AfrEA Leadership Conducts Pre-Conference Engagement Visit to Morocco |
|
|
|
Ahead of the 12th AfrEA International Conference, AfrEA President Dr Miché Ouédraogo and Executive Director Carlos Akligo undertook a series of engagement meetings across Morocco, visiting Marrakech, Rabat, and Casablanca to strengthen partnerships and secure support for the upcoming conference.
In Rabat, the delegation met with representatives of the Islamic Development Bank, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Morocco Country Office, formally presenting the conference and inviting their participation and support.
In Casablanca, the team met with the Hon. Abdillah Hifdi, Chairperson of the African Parliamentarians' Network on Development Evaluation (APNODE), extending a similar invitation.
Across these engagements, partners expressed strong support for the conference and pledged their continued commitment to AfrEA, before, during, and after the event. |

Celebrating New Leadership at GEI
|
|
|
|
The Global Evaluation Initiative (GEI) has announced Dr Douglas Glandon as its new Program Manager. He assumes the role this month, having served as Acting Program Manager since February 2026, and previously as Lead Technical Advisor.
Dr Glandon brings two decades of experience working with governments and institutions to strengthen monitoring and evaluation systems and advance the use of evidence in decision-making, including prior roles with the International Initiative for Impact Evaluation (3ie) and Fiji's Ministry of Health and Medical Services. Since joining GEI, he has played a central role in developing and implementing the organisation's 2026–2030 strategy.
He holds a PhD in Health Systems from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Master of Public Health from Tufts University, and has published more than twenty peer-reviewed articles and chapters on evaluation methods and health systems.
AfrEA joins the wider evaluation community in congratulating Dr Glandon on his appointment.

Strengthening the culture of monitoring and evaluation in Morocco |

|
On July 7 and 8, 2026, the Moroccan Evaluation Association (AME) organized a training session dedicated to: "Strengthening the Capacity of Civil Society Organizations and the Media in Monitoring and Evaluation" This activity was carried out with the support of the African Evaluation Association (AfrEA), as part of efforts to promote the culture of monitoring and evaluation on the African continent. This meeting allowed participants to strengthen their knowledge, discover practical methodological tools and discuss the challenges of monitoring and evaluation. The aim is to contribute to improving the quality of development projects, programmes and initiatives, while promoting the establishment of a genuine culture of evaluation within civil society organisations and the media.
The AME warmly thanks all the trainers, partners and participants for their commitment and contribution to the success of this activity.

AfrEA to Attend Zimbabwe's 2nd Edition Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Week |

AfrEA will be attending the second edition of Zimbabwe's Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Week, taking place from 31 August to 4 September 2026 at the Urban Lifestyles Hotel in Masvingo.
Hosted by the Office of the President and Cabinet's National Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Department, in partnership with the Zimbabwe Evaluation Association (ZEA) and the United Nations Zimbabwe, the week is convened under the theme "Advancing Vision 2030, SDGs and Agenda 2063 through Public Sector Service Delivery: Transformation of MEL and Data Systems."
AfrEA President Dr Miché Ouédraogo will address the official opening ceremony, speaking on "The Made in Africa Evaluation Agenda: Charting Africa's Trajectory Towards a Decolonised Evaluation Practice."

Applicants to the 12th AfrEA International Conference will be notified of the outcome of their abstract submission on 10 September 2026.
All applicants who submitted an abstract will receive an email confirming whether their submission has been accepted. Successful applicants will also receive further details on next steps, including the deadline for full paper submission.
We thank every evaluator, researcher, practitioner, and policymaker who submitted a proposal, and we look forward to sharing the outcome of the review process.

The Nigerian Association of Evaluators (NAE) is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Nigeria Evaluation Conference (NAE 2026).
The conference will take place in Abuja, Nigeria, from 2 to 4 November 2026, under the theme "Evaluation as a National Asset." It will bring together evaluators, policymakers, researchers, development partners, academics, students, and practitioners from Nigeria and across the world to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and strengthen evaluation practice.
Early bird registration is available on or before 30 August 2026, at the following rates:

Introducing the YEE Hub: A New Newsletter for AfrEA's Young and Emerging Evaluators |

AfrEA is excited to announce the launch of a dedicated newsletter for its Young and Emerging Evaluators (YEE) network, the YEE Hub, made possible with the support of the Mastercard Foundation. The YEE Hub will spotlight the voices, achievements, and opportunities shaping the next generation of African evaluators, featuring member profiles, career and funding opportunities, event updates, and reflections from young evaluators across the continent.
Coordinated by YEE Network co-leads Baraka Mfilinge and Madeleine Brou, the newsletter aims to strengthen connection and visibility within the YEE community, and to ensure young evaluators are well informed and well represented within AfrEA's wider network.
The YEE Hub will officially launch on 31 August 2026, during a dedicated webinar session featuring both YEE leaders, representing the Anglophone and Francophone sides of the network.
